A Connection Series Novella featuring Ben Covington

The story before the love story….

When he lost the only woman he’d ever loved, it seemed there was nothing left to live for.

Even as a boy, all Ben Covington ever wanted was to spend forever with Dahlia London, the beautiful girl next door...then one life-altering decision tore them apart and he was forced to leave her.

Now, despite having returned to win her back, he’s still alone. She’s with someone else—someone she’s never going to leave.

Resigned to a future without his former girlfriend, Ben numbs his broken heart in a haze of liquor and women. But then the only woman who ever even turned his head while he was with his girl reappears unexpectedly. And he’s never forgotten their one incredible night together. But will Ben’s destructive behavior destroy his future with her before it even begins?

 My Review:

Oh Ben. Ben, Ben, Ben. I’ll be really honest here; in real life, I have no use for cheaters. It’s near the top of the list of unforgivable offenses for me. No way around it. However, in fiction, I have no problem with it. I am able to take my personal feelings out and just experience the world I’m temporarily living in. That being said, I never had any ill will towards Ben throughout Connected and Torn. Furthermore, I could see the bigger picture. Ben and Dahlia served their purpose, but they were never meant to me together. He was there for her in a time when she needed him most, and they grew up together, sharing all their firsts. But I truly believe they were both deluding themselves to think the relationship would last further than the friendship it had built its foundations. That’s why when she first saw River, the sparks were there. When Ben first saw Bell, the sparks were there. While we don’t yet know B&B’s full story or where it will lead, we know R&D’s. Had Ben not cheated and faked his death, thus losing any trust or love Dahlia had left for him, she would never have found her true soul mate in River. And that, folks, would have been a travesty. So that’s what I mean when I say I can take myself out of the situation and see the bigger picture. I am huge believe in things happening for a reason, and people having purposes, even if we can’t see through the pain to know the truth.

Blurred is the story of Ben’s road to recovery. He doesn’t receive absolution for the unsettling in his soul, but he’s getting there. What everyone needs to understand is that Ben is not a bad guy. The universe recognized that four souls weren’t where they were intended to be, so it threw them in each other’s paths. Should he have broken up with Dahlia before he was with Bell? Absolutely. Should he have been honest with her about everything that was going on in his life especially when it affected her? Without a doubt. But again, without those catalysts, there probably wouldn’t be a River and Dahlia because she and Ben would have stuck it out, continuing to live in denial, holding on to a past that was never going to be a future.

Ben is a man filled with regret and guilt; mourning the life he was so sure would be his when he returned from hiding. Not only had everyone gone on living, they had gone on living without him. Not being able to wrap his head around that, he sunk into a pit of depression. Plainly put, he hit rock bottom, and he hit it hard. Life in limbo, he heads to Australia to get his life back together and clear his mind. We are given a little more insight as to how he and Bell originally met and I look forward to getting the entire story as well as all secrets that aren’t being spoken. Bell has spunk and sass, but an unbelievably big heart. Combine that with all that Ben has going on and it’s sure to be a delicious collision!

As always, I loved the continuations of characters that are now smaller in role, but no less important in impact. You see everyone come into play in this novella, and it was the perfect pre-quel into Ben’s full length book. There were so many hints and clues dropped that I can’t wait to see how it all plays out. A few new characters that I can’t wait to get to know better. If her other books were any indication, I suspect to have my mind blown. Definitely read this one!

About Kim Karr

I live in Florida with my husband and four kids. I’ve always had a love for reading books and writing. Being an English major in college, I wanted to teach at the college level but that was not to be. I went on to receive an MBA and became a project manager until quitting to raise my family. I currently work part-time with my husband and full-time embracing one of my biggest passions—writing.

I wear a lot of hats! Writer, book-lover, wife, soccer-mom, taxi driver, and the all around go-to person of the family. However, I always find time to read. One of my favorite family outings use to be taking my kids to the bookstore or the library. Today, my oldest child is in college and my twins are juniors so they no longer go with me on these outings. And although I don’t need to go to the actual store anymore because I have the greatest device ever invented—a Kindle, I still do. There’s nothing like a paperback. So now my four year old and I make dates out of going to the bookstore–it’s time I love and cherish.

I like to believe in soulmates, kindred spirits, true friends, and Happily-Ever-Afters. I love to drink champagne, listen to music, and hopes to always stay young at heart. <3
