One single moment changes everything
In one breath, you can have it all
A split-second later, it can all disappear
Vanished forever
That was me
I had it all
Then in a cruel twist of fate, it was taken from me
A beautiful life gone in a flash
But he was there
He was there to pick me up when I fell
To protect me
My savior. My rock.
He was just a stranger
Just a selfless stranger with a face I'll never forget
Can't forget
Won't forget
And like everything else, he just disappeared
As if he never existed
I have to find him
I need to find him
He has to know that he saved me
He has to know that in that one fleeting moment, he was all I could see.

Teaser
He moves quickly, flipping me over and pinning my back against the mattress.
“I thought you needed time,” I say, my voice soft and low, seductive, even to my own ears.
“Oh, I do—but that doesn’t mean I can’t make you whimper my name again.”
I swallow and look up at him through my lashes. “Oh yeah?”
He slides down my body, taking hold of my knees and gently pushing them apart.
“Oh yeah,” he murmurs, right before he presses his mouth between my legs.
My Review
Even amidst the depravity within the pages, there was something so beautiful and heart breaking about this story. From the questions and uncertainty to the stolen moments of passion and the suspense of what was to come, it was wrapped up in a package that spanned multiple genres. Quite simply, it was Bella Jewel at her best! Just enough dark, relatable characters, scorching scenes between the sheets, and a love story that outshines everything else.
There are no stepping stones in this book; you are thrown into the deep end from the word go, so you’d better learn to swim fast. Even though I’ve become accustomed to dual POV stories, I feel like only having Lucy’s POV added to Heath’s mystery. By not knowing for sure what he was thinking, you are left questioning yourself of his existence, just as Lucy was forced to. I loved that as the reader, we were forced to really feel what Lucy was experiencing with her husband. All the feelings of betrayal, loss of loyalty, hopelessness, and the pure loss. These things only made me love her that much deeper. I’m still going to claim that my most hated character of the book was Gerard’s sister, Heather. If ever someone needed a two by four upside the head, it would be her.
I loved that despite everything going on in the background, we got a true love story. Bella’s stories always portray raw emotions and grit and this was no exception. You connect with the characters so quickly and easily, it’s as if you’ve always known them. I was invested from page one and couldn’t wait to see it all play out in real time. I loved that for the most part, they were pretty adult about everything and not overly petty. There were many moments where I could see it headed in that direction, but then they would be yanked back to reality and reason. Between the tender touches to the stolen moments to the tear the sheets up steam, I loved every second of it. She left me wanting more, which is the true sign of a good book.
That being said, I almost felt like there was so much going on, it was a little rushed. Between what happens at the beginning to what happens between them, to the larger storyline in the background, I feel like each part could have used more time. All three for enthralling to read and experience, I just wish more time had been devoted to them rather than smushing them into the pages it did. The story telling was phenomenal and I feel like the material was definitely there for more. I just needed more time with them all. That being said, I feel like she left the door open to possible future stories from some of the side characters. No clue if that’s in the works; only time will tell. Highly recommend checking out this story!
