Spreading my legs with his knee, he smiled down at me and covered my body with his, leaning on his elbows to keep his full weight off of me. I was small underneath his body, utterly at his mercy. It was an archaic feeling, but I wanted him to take me, to claim me for his own—
leave his mark on me.
“I love the way you look when you’re happy, it’s breathtaking the way your face glows,” he claimed, brushing his fingers down my cheek. “However, your eyes are what I love the most.”
“Why is that?” I asked, kissing his fingers as be brushed them over my lips.
He brought his own gray gaze down closer and looked deeply into my eyes. “When I look at you, I see that light, beckoning me closer. It’s that light I’ve been so afraid will burn out if you let me in, but the more time I’ve spent with you, it’s only gotten brighter. I’m addicted to it … to you. These days I can’t seem to think of anything else.”
I felt the same way.
“And once you make love to me it’ll only get worse,” I admitted tenderly. “Is that a risk you’re willing to take?”
He lowered his lips to mine and I closed my eyes, loving the way my lips tingled every time they touched his. “Yes,” he answered. “I’d risk just about anything for you.”
My Review:
Though we received a small taste of some of the players in the prequel, nothing prepared me for how much I would come to love them in this full length novel. In fact, I was fully prepared to hate the main male character, Tyler. I’m all for man-whores who find the “one” and fall hard, but I just couldn’t see it happening for him. Oh ye of little faith…
From the beginning, we were privy to the secret that our main female, Kacey, was hiding. And let me tell you…as far as these characters go, it was a doozy. As in, probably the biggest thing that could have mattered to any of them. So while I thoroughly was enjoying watching her fight her attraction for this fine male specimen, I craved the eventual fallout that was surely to come. While I was waiting anxiously though, I fell in love with her. Kacey was an extremely strong, relatable character that anyone would be lucky to be friends with. Her snarky outlook on life all the while being boggled down by this secret that she felt others would judge her by only endeared her to me all the more. As I am sure all these books are going to be somewhere interconnected, I look forward to seeing more of her in the future.
Tyler was just…whew… Behind the cocky demeanor he flaunted to the world lay a man who would willingly through his heart at the feet of the right woman. Watching this strong fighter literally being brought to his knees was humbling. To be crippled by love is one of the best and worst feelings in the world. Best because you can imagine nothing better and worst because you are susceptible to indescribable pain. I loved how he was always completely open with her about his past and his feelings. I love that when the time came, he was quick to fight for her. Sure there was angst. Sure there was pain. Sure there was pure terror. But when it came down to it, there was an abundance of love, support, and happiness (and of course many HOT sexy scenes).
Besides the prequels, this was my first journey into L.P. Dover’s mind, and I can safely say it is a place I hope to revisit very soon!
