My Review
Where to even start… This book was delicious from beginning to end. Perfectly blending humor and sex with raw emotion, I never wanted to get off the Aussie loving, koala hating, photo booth taking, tick picking train that was Mason and Brooke. Unlike many others, I just recently was introduced to this series and its counterpart, Alabama Summer. Having started out with AS two weeks prior, I knew as soon as I finished those I needed anything and everything for this author. So of course I ran out and stalked and signed up for whatever I could. Cue two weeks later, and having devoured Reese and Dylan, though I was ready for more Sweet Addiction and the gang, I wasn’t so sure about Brooke. Though she grew on me by the end of the second book in the series, something about her just rubbed me the wrong way. And not the fun way she did Mason 😉 But then again, I’ve never been so happy to be so wrong. Because by the end of the first chapter I was head over heels in love with that woman and all her endearing faults and insecurities. She grabbed life by the proverbial lady balls and wasn’t ashamed of who she was.
There’s been a recurring theme throughout this series that I cannot get enough of. Women who are who they are and make no apologies about it and the men who are just as strong and love them all the more for it. By the end of the three books I could find no faults with any of the characters that I didn’t absolutely love. She didn’t just create characters and a few books, she invented a world that I never want to leave. From Billy and Joey, to Ian and Jules, back to Reese and Dylan, and finally with Mason and Brooke. They were all very important pieces to an even larger loving puzzle. An unbreakable puzzle that you just knew if you were to peek into their lives 10 years, 20 years, down the road it would be just as close and strong as it was today. We were given the perfect story and an even better ending.
In the likes of Alice Clayton and Emma Chase, never has a series of books been so unbelievably sexy and so funny all at the same time. Reading this book was effortless and made me squirm in the best way more than once. I loved how both Mason and Brooke had this inane ability to display vulnerability and strength at the same time, yet never seemed weak. I loved that Mason made her wait for the real thing. For as fast as Reese and Dylan jumped into the sheets, this couple was the complete opposite, though not for lack of trying on Brooke’s part. Neither route was right or wrong, it just mattered what worked for each couple. Just so happened it worked perfectly for each. The wait and buildup was worth every agonizing second and I wouldn’t have changed a single thing. I loved the growth that was made by them both and the fact that they could both own up to their mistakes. Their playful banter, unique dates (you’ll never look at a photo booth the same again), and straightforward talk all paved the way to a couple you won’t soon forget. But I also loved the friendships forged and believe me, they were definitely tested in this book. Plain and simple, I just loved the love that was planted and grew. I look forward to reading this series over and over again!
